Ted Cruz Launches Ads Criticizing Colin Allred's Record on Transgender Issues

The Republican senator's ads accuse Allred of supporting policies that allow transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice and participate in sports consistent with their gender identity.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has launched a new ad campaign criticizing Rep. Colin Allred's (D-Texas) record on transgender issues.

The ads, which are running on television and online, accuse Allred of supporting policies that allow transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice and participate in sports consistent with their gender identity.

Cruz's ads come as Allred is facing a tough reelection challenge from Republican challenger Genevieve Collins.

Allred has defended his record on transgender issues, saying that he supports policies that protect the rights of all Texans, regardless of their gender identity.

"I believe that all Texans deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their gender identity," Allred said in a statement.

"I will continue to fight for policies that protect the rights of all Texans, including transgender Texans."

Cruz's ads are part of a broader effort by Republicans to make transgender issues a wedge issue in the 2022 midterm elections.

In recent months, Republicans in several states have passed laws restricting the rights of transgender people, including laws that ban transgender people from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity and laws that require transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds with the sex they were assigned at birth.

Democrats have condemned these laws as discriminatory and harmful, and they have vowed to fight to protect the rights of transgender people.

The debate over transgender rights is likely to continue to be a major issue in the 2022 midterm elections.
